Hannah Haws is proud to be a member of the Forest Lake Area Good Samaritans. A Forest Lake native, she grew up in the area and graduated from FLAHS in 2003. After spending several years out of state, Hannah returned to Forest Lake with her family in 2017. She and her husband, Ryan, have three boys: two school-aged and one little brother. Both Ryan and Hannah attended Hamline University, where they embraced the belief that “you do all the good you can, in all the ways you can,” a principle they continue to live by as they raise their children.
Hannah was introduced to the Forest Lake Good Samaritans through the Bus Driver Appreciation events, one of her favorite ways to pay it forward. She and her children love surprising bus drivers with special treats, which sparked her involvement with the group. Inspired by the idea that, by coming together, the community could accomplish so much more, she joined the board and has been actively involved ever since.
One of Hannah's favorite events is the annual Cleanest City in America Challenge. During their first year participating, her oldest son was determined to fill as many bags of trash as possible. Among the treasures he found were an old broken laptop and a camera body—both of which he insisted on keeping until Hannah could find a way to recycle them.
Hannah loves how the Forest Lake Area Good Samaritans provide opportunities for families to engage in their community through donations or acts of service. Serving as a board member is an added bonus, allowing her to contribute even more. She believes in the importance of community support and cherishes the impact of friendly faces in times of need.
Her favorite quote, which guides her actions, is by John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
